145/366 - Mid-winter Christmas

Today is mid-winter's day and my colleagues and I decided to share a mid-winter Christmas this evening, to wish one of our number farewell. She is  British and specially asked if her leaving "do" could be a mid-winter Christmas celebration so we got out the Christmas tree, assorted Christmas decorations and sat down to a big hot dinner, complete with roast veg, roast meat, nut roast, Yorkshire puddings and an assortment of veggies including the ubiquitous Brussels Sprouts!

144/366 - World Vision "Kids for Kids" concert

With Suzanne Prentice, several school choirs (about 360 children) including 8 soloists: 7 girls and 1 boy. . . We came home with an "extra child", having agreed to sponsor an 11 year old boy from Cambodia through World Vision, as a "World Buddy" for Sonny Jim! Those soloists certainly had guts to stand up in front of approx 800 people and sing their hearts out!

137/366 - The "accidental avocado"

One day last year when I was adding vegetable scraps to our worm farm,  I found an avocado stone which had sprouted roots and shoots and leaves, unnoticed in the darkness! I admired its tenacity so retrieved it and tried to encourage it to thrive, although the Wifie and I are famed for our ability to neglect most plants to death! However, this "accidental avocado" really bucked the trend, and grew and grew and grew!

I photographed it before taking it off to work to give to my green-fingered colleague F, so she could graft a Fuerte avocado plant onto it. Apparently it may not survive the experience, but I really hope it does!

136/366 - Splash of colour

In the dull winter depths of the garden, there is one bright beacon of colour, sprouting from the muddy, weedy quagmire that used to be the grass! A self-seeded rainbow silverbeet plant :)
